GCSE/YR/2

STUDENT REFERENCE

GCSE YR2 / 2022/23

INTRO TEXT:

During the last half of the autumn term will be a busy one. Your time will be split between:

  1. preparing your mock and final artwork

  2. Refining your portfolio work including:

    • working on unfinished projects and artworks

    • asking yourself is there anything that can be added to or improved

    • annotating your work

    • building a digital portfolio (I will be showing you how to do this, I will also photograph all your work ready for this conversion to digital)

MOCK EXAM INFO:

Please choose your mock project from one of

these titles:

  • Hot Weather

  • Maps

  • Aquatic Life

  • Still Life

  • Urban Life

There is often an instinctive choice around choosing on of the titles - spend a little time thinking about which title you would like to work towards.

What to think about:

Have I already done a project that is similar to the one in the list, if I choose that one how would I make this interpretation different?

In class we will work in a group to discuss potential routes for the projects.

Portfolio reference: follow the links below to see previous Brasspoint SVA students portfolios. Looking at these will help you to see the range of requirements for a project (the same as we do in class) as well as how they approached the topic.

How to approach the Mock Exam? Things to consider:

Below is a list of things to consider as your project builds. I will be always be available to discuss ideas and make contextual suggestions, which artists to look at and include in the project, how to progress the project, discussions on creative approaches, techniques and mediums to use.

I have listed here a chronological development of the project but it is often the case that this exact order of progress flows in different ways.

1MIND MAP

The first thing you may want to do is a mind map. This will start you off with a few initial ideas. You should be prepared to return to the mind map if you think something needs more thinking and planning.

2) INITIAL SKETCHES AND OBSERVATIONAL DRAWINGS

  • What could these drawings be of?

  • What different medium should I consider? Think about the different mediums you have used in the classes so far and any other used at home. Always ask (and discuss with me) 'how can I be experimental'.

3) TAKING PHOTOGRAPHS

  • What photographs can I take to support this project?

4) LOOKING AT ARTISTS THAT MIGHT BE

    RELEVANT TO MY PROJECT

  • This is something you should discuss with me and I will be able to make a few suggestions. These will be printed out and included in your portfolio as contextual references.

5) ANNOTATIONS

  • Annotate your developing project - look under the heading USEFUL in the menu above for useful information and guidance. You will also discuss this with me.

6) FINAL ARTWORK

  • All your preparatory work will be heading towards a final artwork as you know. Write out a schedule that highlights when you should be ready to start work on your final artwork.
